Title Research: Pearl

 Welcome back everyone! Today I will be discussing the opening scene of the 2022 thriller, Pearl. Titles displayed in the opening scene consists of production company tags, the starring actress and actors, the director's name, the casting directors, the costume designers, production designer, the director of photography, the editor, the producer, executive producers, the writers, and then finally the title in a big font. The font of the title cards is reminiscent of the 1950's which is when the film is set. There are many important images that are prioritized. One image shows the main character dreaming in a room of mirrors surrounded by multiple reflections of herself. She is dancing and frolicking. She is happy, content, and in her element. This emphasizes that she wants to be in the spotlight This dream is soon interrupted by her mom opening her room and the main character looks unhappy and sad. This foreshadows how her desire for being in the spotlight will ultimately be her downfall. This makes the scene feel hopeful, then the hope becomes lost. The opening scene make an effort to show the landscape of the farm. She gives a monologues  to her farm animals revealing her true thoughts and desires. These inner thoughts give insight on future plots in the movie. The scene also captures moments when she is smiling and when she is not. This shows the character's likes and dislikes. The very beginning moment of the opening scene shows a point of view shot of a barn opening to reveal a beautiful sunrise behind a farm house. The connotation is very happy and chipper which is a huge contrast between the dark feel of the actual film. The last scene finally breaks away from the happy and light feel and shows the main character killing a duck and feeding it to an alligator which makes the audience with an unsettled mood.   The mystery short film I watched was Party to Murder by Strobie Studios. The actors gathered together at this old style mansion to play a game of murder mystery while at a masked party. Will they play a harmless game or is the reality of death knocking on their front door? The director included a plot twist which is what ultimately made the short film a good watch. Short Film Research: The Last Note

    Short film reasearch: ( The Last Note/Mystery) Hey blogg. Today we will be discussing an award-winning mystery short film called "The Last Note" and pointing out different features within this film. For some background, the film begins with David driving to lake while taking about leaving his wife and all his problems with her. Then David is seen with a body bag which is Catherine and dumps her in a lake. He does this due to catching ehr cheating on him the night before. Once David returns home, he starts drinking a liquor while reading a book named Murder. In the book, there was a note from Catherine and as he reads to there are flashbacks to her putting posion in the bottle. He then relazies as she write “sorry I had to do this , goodbye David” and he passes away. My Critical Reflection

  Critical Reflection Link Critical Reflection A level Media Studies How do your products represent social groups or issues? My short film, Shattered Bonds, represents the major issue of mental health struggles that follow being left out in relationships and friendships, that so many people suffer from in the real world. The film highlights the idea that when you feel a sense of hurt in a relationship/friendship it can cause a mental trigger for coping mechanisms such as violence or self harm. Shattered bonds brings awareness to this through the plot. Throughout the film, there are scenes showing one of the teenage girls being left out of the group and feeling a sense of hurt in the fact that nobody is including her in their conversation or activities. These feelings of hurt then revolve into resentment in the film as they do in the real world. These feelings can lead to violence against others as well as self harm.
