Storyboard!

Hello and welcome back!! Me and my group completed the storyboard and really had fun making it. Enjoy!!

Beginning to plan!

Welcome back to my blog, today we are finally getting into the fun part of these blogs. Last week my group and I discussed how we wanted to begin filming. Thankfully our group is super easy going with not too tight of schedules so deciding how we want to plan was quite easy. We're planning on filming either next week or the week after. We figured that getting a jump on our video would be more beneficial as it leaves us with more time to edit and make any changes. Not to mention that we already know exactly where we're going to film and how we're going to execute the scenes. We're going to film our short movie at Jenna's house because her house meets in the middle of all the group members. She also has parks and stores nearby just in case we decide to film a scene in that type of setting. The only people that would be filming and participating in the creation of this short film would be Natalia, Jenna, Sofia, and Carleigh. We are going to have no additional people

Short Film Research: Party to Murder

The mystery short film I watched was Party to Murder by Strobie Studios. The actors gathered together at this old style mansion to play a game of murder mystery while at a masked party. Will they play a harmless game or is the reality of death knocking on their front door? The director included a plot twist which is what ultimately made the short film a good watch. At the beginning of the film the director used upbeat music and close up angles of a couple dressed in fancy attire. The upbeat music explained the mood of the couple, as they were laughing and excited for their upcoming party. However as the car approached the home the music took a turn for the dark. The music began to speed up and the musical notes selection became very ominous. A big tactic used in mysteries especially murder mysteries in plot twists. Plot twists leave the audience highly surprised making it the best way to recapture a viewer's attention. Nobody wants to sit through a movie where every scene is easi

Short Film Research: The Last Note

Short film reasearch: ( The Last Note/Mystery) Hey blogg. Today we will be discussing an award-winning mystery short film called "The Last Note" and pointing out different features within this film. For some background, the film begins with David driving to lake while taking about leaving his wife and all his problems with her. Then David is seen with a body bag which is Catherine and dumps her in a lake. He does this due to catching ehr cheating on him the night before. Once David returns home, he starts drinking a liquor while reading a book named Murder. In the book, there was a note from Catherine and as he reads to there are flashbacks to her putting posion in the bottle. He then relazies as she write “sorry I had to do this , goodbye David” and he passes away. To begin the sound purely consisted of voice-overs from both Catherine and David, the former husbands and wife, along with sound effects. In specific, dramatic sound effects were used which is very common with

Whittling away

Hey guys welcome back!  The murder mystery, short film, we chose was called whittling away. This film features, a father, a grandmother, and a daughter. To start the scene, the daughter is shown at a deserted lake, which creates a suspenseful theme for the murder mystery. This is a great way to create engagement for the audience. The short film progress to a snippet of the girl drawing blood into the lake. The girl despaired for almost the whole duration the short film  until the plot twist at the end . The use of diegetic sound creates the outside scene for the characters. Our film will also use diegetic sound to create scene. As well as no diegetic sound for our credit scene. Just like the short film party to murder, “the whittling away” there is a plot twist. This startagy  is a great example of the other ways on how to execute one for our film. In the editing of this short film, it goes back-and-forth between the daughter and fathers point of view. If our group decided to do this

Short film Research: The Vision

Throughout the Mystery short film, The Vision, there was a boy looking for his friend throughout a fever dream and never ended up finding out if his friend was ok or not. There was common sounds from the mystery genre like creepy music playing in the background. The lighting throughout the short film was very dark and eerie. The boys bedroom as well as all the settings that were shown throughout the film were dark and made a viewer feel uncomfortable. A common editing tactic in the mystery genre is foreshadowing which means early in the film, a hint is given as to what is going to happen as the plot. Another common tactic is suspense. Suspense is built through ending scenes with cliffhangers, making a character complicated, intense point of view, and hints as to what is to come throughout the film.  I really enjoy the suspenseful part about mystery genre films. Throughout all mystery films, there is so much suspense built up because you truly want to know what happened and why it is

Putting together a short film

Hey Blog. This blog will discuss and evaluate the procedure of putting together a short film. The first important factor in starting the process of making a short film is identifying your budget. Understanding how much Knowing how many people will work with you and who will be a part of your cast is involved with the budget. This is very important to know to write up a plan for filming. Starting to write out a filming plan with the budget in mind is highly important. Knowing how much money can be sent and what resources are available to you plays a part in the budget and essentially the whole film. Smaller casts are usually common for shot films so keeping that in the plans is important. Knowing big fancy scenes like explosions can't be done because short films usually have limited money and resources. This makes creativity a highly important factor. Also, short films typically have a shorter duration than feature-length films, often ranging from a few minutes to around 30 minute

A Comparison of 12 Monkeys & La Jetée

Heyyy blog welcome back. Prior to researching these two films I didn't realize how similar the two storylines were. I was distracted by the use of still images compared to video sequences to notice the plot. After watching “La Jetee vs 12 Monkeys… which is better?” I see that both films explore the idea of time travel and the consequences for your actions. La Jetee does this through the use of images to tell this provoking story. When creating our own short film we are able to take these to films and use them as inspiration. We want to incorporate more complex ideas that leave the audience thinking. I think our goal of our short film is to really throw the audience off track almost like a plot twist. We could maybe even incorporate the idea of a natural disaster just like La Jetee and 12 Monkeys. After watching the two films we also took the video style into consideration for our film. The La Jetee images are black and white so the film has an older, more dark feeling to it. For th

Short vs. full length film research

BLOG 1: Comparing 9, the short film, and the full-length movie  Hey Blogg, our group will be discussing the short version of the film "9" and the full-length version along with comparing both of them.  Short film version: None of our group members had ever seen this movie and seeing it for the first time it was different, unlike something we had ever seen before. First off, there was no dialogue throughout the whole film. This causes us to pay even more attention to what was happening throughout the film to better understand what was going on. For this specific short film, the plot was less obvious and required higher thinking skills as all that is given are the scenes. We understood the plot at the nearing the end of the movie. Our interpretation of the plot was that in a desolate setting that looked like a landfill site, the film begins with scenes of 9 crafting objects from scrap metal. As the title screen fades, 9 is found sitting around the remnants of a broken world
