Putting together a short film

Hey Blog. This blog will discuss and evaluate the procedure of putting together a short film. The first important factor in starting the process of making a short film is identifying your budget. Understanding how much Knowing how many people will work with you and who will be a part of your cast is involved with the budget. This is very important to know to write up a plan for filming. Starting to write out a filming plan with the budget in mind is highly important. Knowing how much money can be sent and what resources are available to you plays a part in the budget and essentially the whole film. Smaller casts are usually common for shot films so keeping that in the plans is important. Knowing big fancy scenes like explosions can't be done because short films usually have limited money and resources. This makes creativity a highly important factor. Also, short films typically have a shorter duration than feature-length films, often ranging from a few minutes to around 30 minutes. Creativity becomes essential to convey a compelling story, evoke emotions, and engage the audience within this brief timeframe. Next, when coming up with ideas try to not go with your first instinct because it is probably what the audience is anticipating so do the opposite. A good example is in a short film, Tell, there is a part where the actor is washing their face in the sink and when he comes back up, the original plan was to have someone standing behind the actor but because that is a predictable jumpscare so instead there was no jumpscare. This allows for the tension to build up for a later jumpscare that wouldn't be expected. Identifying the theme and basing the production on it and letting guide the film. In terms of filming gear think of what you want the audience to feel and convey and pick around that. A good camera might be a valuable invest towards your project but an iPhone can still do a lot. A computer along with a good editing software could also be very useful in filming short films because quality is highly important. Overall, the filming gear is important but doesn't need to be very expensive and most of the time isn't. The pre-ducation stage is highly the most important process of the whole project as this is what makes or breaks your film. You may be tempted to pick up a camera and start filming but pre planning the production is key. Creating a script and memorizing it thoroughly is number 1 in the pre-prodution stage. Adding storyboards and shot lists will be very helpful for filming and can allow your filming process to go smoothly. The next part of creating a short film is obtaining a good crew. Due to short films having a lower budgets, a lot of characters isn't ideal along with the fact the storyline must be quick. Getting actors that can be very helpful to your film and exploring their strengths and weakness will allow for the best product during filming. Next, starting to film can be a hard process so making sure the locations you will be filming in are available to vital. Some locations don't allow for filming so before filming day making certain that the locations allow for filming is extremely important and sets the tone for the whole filming process. Lighting in location is also something to take account for and can affect they way scenes are filmed. Checking weather conditions and working around things like rain, storms etc is also key. During actual filming, keeping a good attitude within the filming crew and not getting frustrated helps the environment flourish. A very important note of short filming is understand that as much as your prepare, the product may not end up how you imagined it in your head. Short films are unpredictable due to limited budgets and resources. However, great short films are made everyday and are all based off the creativity and resourcefulness of the director and crew. Production Blog- The Final Stretch!

Hello and welcome back blog. It is the final stretch and the complete process of making this short film is now coming to a close. It is a sad realization but at the same time I am so beyond proud of how hard me and my group worked and well as all the time and effort we put into this short film. The group finished filming and now the process of editing has begun. It took three full days of filming in order to get all the scenes for the short film. When Jenna put most of the scenes together in imovie, it came out to be a six minute film. There was so many scenes that needed to be cut out and shortened that she is still working to shorten it as we speak. We used the time in class to brainstorm different sounds that should be used throughout the short film. It was pretty difficult coming up with sounds to use because nothing truly fit the scenes to perfection. While coming up with that, I had a classmate named Jack peer review the short film. At this point the short film was no where near ...

My Critical Reflection

Critical Reflection Link Critical Reflection A level Media Studies How do your products represent social groups or issues? My short film, Shattered Bonds, represents the major issue of mental health struggles that follow being left out in relationships and friendships, that so many people suffer from in the real world. The film highlights the idea that when you feel a sense of hurt in a relationship/friendship it can cause a mental trigger for coping mechanisms such as violence or self harm. Shattered bonds brings awareness to this through the plot. Throughout the film, there are scenes showing one of the teenage girls being left out of the group and feeling a sense of hurt in the fact that nobody is including her in their conversation or activities. These feelings of hurt then revolve into resentment in the film as they do in the real world. These feelings can lead to violence against others as well as self harm. In the film, the girl being left out resorts to killing the girl t...
