Short Film Research: The Last Note

Hey blogg. Today we will be discussing an award-winning mystery short film called "The Last Note" and pointing out different features within this film. For some background, the film begins with David driving to lake while taking about leaving his wife and all his problems with her. Then David is seen with a body bag which is Catherine and dumps her in a lake. He does this due to catching ehr cheating on him the night before. Once David returns home, he starts drinking a liquor while reading a book named Murder. In the book, there was a note from Catherine and as he reads to there are flashbacks to her putting posion in the bottle. He then relazies as she write “sorry I had to do this , goodbye David” and he passes away. To begin the sound purely consisted of voice-overs from both Catherine and David, the former husbands and wife, along with sound effects. In specific, dramatic sound effects were used which is very common within mystery short films. Common CAMs in mystery blogs and The Last Note were close-up shots to show emotion of protagonist, which was seen a lot during the car scene of David and all over the short film. In mystery films, sets in normal day environments are usually seen due to the sense of casualnes to build tension. This is seen in The Last Note. During this short film, there were multiple flashbacks and slow-paced scenes which are very common within the mystery genre. Some highly favorited mystery films are:

  1. Memento (2000)

  2. Gone Girl (2014)

  3. Shutter Island (2010)

  4. Prisoners (2013)

  5. Chinatown (1974)

Lastly, we really enjoyed this short film due to its simplicity and the fact it kept us on our toes. We didn’t expect for David to have killed his wife as weinitially thought he was just gonna divorce her. Once we found out David killed her, the fact that Catherine posined his drink earlier in the day was very suprsing. The whole stroy was able to be very developed within less an 5 minutes which is highly impressive. The only thing we would’ve enjoyed the short film to include is a little dialouge. This could have created link towards the audience and the film but, we still really enjoyed this film. Bye blog see you next time!

  Hey, welcome back! In commercials on donuts, there’s a mix of diegetic and non-diegetic sound. Diegetic sound is an important aspect. There is music in the back of each scene that fits the mood and appeals to the viewer. If characters are shown, then there’s dialogue used to move the scene along. A lot of the time there are voice overs that narrate about the coffee or food that’s shown. Ambient sound is background noise which can be heard as other characters in the background of the shop or just surrounding noise present. In certain commercials there’s point of view shots and eyeline matches, in which the camera is what the barista would be seeing and doing. There's a lot of high and low camera angles for dramatic effect, for example, when they are drizzling caramel or chocolate on top of the coffee or donut. Production Blog

 Hello again! There has been a few changes in the filming process. As you know, the filming date for this project is Thursday, March 16, 2023. Some things have changed with the location of filming this project. This project was supposed to be filmed at my dads new and very big modern house that we are moving into in a couple of months. Things changed because my dad is renting out that house to different people before we move in. A couple booked to stay in the house starting today, Tuesday, March 14 all the way through Tuesday, March 28. This had me thinking because the people renting out the house will be there on the date that my group was going to film. The projects deadline is coming up quickly and I knew that my group could not wait two whole weeks before we film so I decided to improvise. I came up with the idea that instead the final task will be filmed at the current house my dad and I are in. This house is smaller but still has most of the necessities that will be needed. T...
