Short Film Research: Party to Murder

The mystery short film I watched was Party to Murder by Strobie Studios. The actors gathered together at this old style mansion to play a game of murder mystery while at a masked party. Will they play a harmless game or is the reality of death knocking on their front door? The director included a plot twist which is what ultimately made the short film a good watch. At the beginning of the film the director used upbeat music and close up angles of a couple dressed in fancy attire. The upbeat music explained the mood of the couple, as they were laughing and excited for their upcoming party. However as the car approached the home the music took a turn for the dark. The music began to speed up and the musical notes selection became very ominous. A big tactic used in mysteries especially murder mysteries in plot twists. Plot twists leave the audience highly surprised making it the best way to recapture a viewer's attention. Nobody wants to sit through a movie where every scene is easily predictable. The author used multiple different angles in the film which helped establish nervous feelings in the audience. One example of an angle used multiple times throughout the short film was the close up. The close up allowed the director to present a clear shot of the actors current emotions, whether its fear, anger or agony. One of my favorite aspects of a murder mystery is the feeling of being completely confused. When so many perplexed thoughts appear that your brain is clouded it gives a sensationally yet odd feeling. I feel that if the director leaves the audience confused or jaw droppingly shocked they have made an excellent movie. One thing I hate about mystery films is when the plot twist is used in so many different movies. For example when the actor is suffering from some sort of mental illness and they didn’t actually witness a murder. There are many aspects of mystery that we like as a group. For example, plot twists. Don’t be suppressed if you see one or two plot twists just be surprised by them!

Hey, welcome back! In commercials on donuts, there’s a mix of diegetic and non-diegetic sound. Diegetic sound is an important aspect. There is music in the back of each scene that fits the mood and appeals to the viewer. If characters are shown, then there’s dialogue used to move the scene along. A lot of the time there are voice overs that narrate about the coffee or food that’s shown. Ambient sound is background noise which can be heard as other characters in the background of the shop or just surrounding noise present. In certain commercials there’s point of view shots and eyeline matches, in which the camera is what the barista would be seeing and doing. There's a lot of high and low camera angles for dramatic effect, for example, when they are drizzling caramel or chocolate on top of the coffee or donut. There are a lot of close ups and zooms on the desired products to emphasize the food presented. There is a lot of cross cutting to different people in these commercials. Som...

Hello again! There has been a few changes in the filming process. As you know, the filming date for this project is Thursday, March 16, 2023. Some things have changed with the location of filming this project. This project was supposed to be filmed at my dads new and very big modern house that we are moving into in a couple of months. Things changed because my dad is renting out that house to different people before we move in. A couple booked to stay in the house starting today, Tuesday, March 14 all the way through Tuesday, March 28. This had me thinking because the people renting out the house will be there on the date that my group was going to film. The projects deadline is coming up quickly and I knew that my group could not wait two whole weeks before we film so I decided to improvise. I came up with the idea that instead the final task will be filmed at the current house my dad and I are in. This house is smaller but still has most of the necessities that will be needed. T...
