Whittling away

Hey guys welcome back! The murder mystery, short film, we chose was called whittling away. This film features, a father, a grandmother, and a daughter. To start the scene, the daughter is shown at a deserted lake, which creates a suspenseful theme for the murder mystery. This is a great way to create engagement for the audience. The short film progress to a snippet of the girl drawing blood into the lake. The girl despaired for almost the whole duration the short film  until the plot twist at the end . The use of diegetic sound creates the outside scene for the characters. Our film will also use diegetic sound to create scene. As well as no diegetic sound for our credit scene. Just like the short film party to murder, “the whittling away” there is a plot twist. This startagy  is a great example of the other ways on how to execute one for our film. In the editing of this short film, it goes back-and-forth between the daughter and fathers point of view. If our group decided to do this for our film, we might take split screen into consideration, to show both characters perspectives simultaneously. Another thing we noticed. The whittling away short film does not focus enough to the build up of the mystery, for example the clues. While doing research I found that every successful murder mystery must include the clues that solve the mystery. These clues help incorporate the audience making them feel like they have a role in the plot. Our group looks forward to incorporating  the suspense that  the murder mystery genre has to offer. In our short film we will  focus on the built up of the suspense but always watching out to not  over do it, that can cause the audience to lose interest. That's all for now blog. Thank you.

Short Film Research: The Last Note

Short film reasearch: ( The Last Note/Mystery) Hey blogg. Today we will be discussing an award-winning mystery short film called "The Last Note" and pointing out different features within this film. For some background, the film begins with David driving to lake while taking about leaving his wife and all his problems with her. Then David is seen with a body bag which is Catherine and dumps her in a lake. He does this due to catching ehr cheating on him the night before. Once David returns home, he starts drinking a liquor while reading a book named Murder. In the book, there was a note from Catherine and as he reads to there are flashbacks to her putting posion in the bottle. He then relazies as she write “sorry I had to do this , goodbye David” and he passes away. To begin the sound purely consisted of voice-overs from both Catherine and David, the former husbands and wife, along with sound effects. In specific, dramatic sound effects were used which is very common with...

My Critical Reflection

Critical Reflection Link Critical Reflection A level Media Studies How do your products represent social groups or issues? My short film, Shattered Bonds, represents the major issue of mental health struggles that follow being left out in relationships and friendships, that so many people suffer from in the real world. The film highlights the idea that when you feel a sense of hurt in a relationship/friendship it can cause a mental trigger for coping mechanisms such as violence or self harm. Shattered bonds brings awareness to this through the plot. Throughout the film, there are scenes showing one of the teenage girls being left out of the group and feeling a sense of hurt in the fact that nobody is including her in their conversation or activities. These feelings of hurt then revolve into resentment in the film as they do in the real world. These feelings can lead to violence against others as well as self harm. In the film, the girl being left out resorts to killing the girl t...

Short Film Research: Party to Murder

The mystery short film I watched was Party to Murder by Strobie Studios. The actors gathered together at this old style mansion to play a game of murder mystery while at a masked party. Will they play a harmless game or is the reality of death knocking on their front door? The director included a plot twist which is what ultimately made the short film a good watch. At the beginning of the film the director used upbeat music and close up angles of a couple dressed in fancy attire. The upbeat music explained the mood of the couple, as they were laughing and excited for their upcoming party. However as the car approached the home the music took a turn for the dark. The music began to speed up and the musical notes selection became very ominous. A big tactic used in mysteries especially murder mysteries in plot twists. Plot twists leave the audience highly surprised making it the best way to recapture a viewer's attention. Nobody wants to sit through a movie where every scene is easi...
