Throughout the Mystery short film, The Vision, there was a boy looking for his friend throughout a fever dream and never ended up finding out if his friend was ok or not. There was common sounds from the mystery genre like creepy music playing in the background. The lighting throughout the short film was very dark and eerie. The boys bedroom as well as all the settings that were shown throughout the film were dark and made a viewer feel uncomfortable. A common editing tactic in the mystery genre is foreshadowing which means early in the film, a hint is given as to what is going to happen as the plot. Another common tactic is suspense. Suspense is built through ending scenes with cliffhangers, making a character complicated, intense point of view, and hints as to what is to come throughout the film. I really enjoy the suspenseful part about mystery genre films. Throughout all mystery films, there is so much suspense built up because you truly want to know what happened and why it is happening. This question is not answered until the end of the film or is sometimes not answered at all truly causing for questions to build up in your mind from start to end. An element of the genre that does not appeal to me is the extreme eerieness. I believe a good mystery film could also be suspenseful even without super dark and scary settings. Having a good plot can truly make or break a Mystery film and I believe overly eerie mystery films with a bad plot like, The Vision, can make little to no sense and be unenjoyable. A recent mystery film that was released four years ago is called, Knives Out. It is a non-eerie or dark film but it is a murder mystery and it is very enjoyable and has a good plot. It left me questioning who was the killer and had me feeling like I was a detective myself. My group is going to aim to create a similar film being not dark and eerie but while having a good plot and the ability to create suspense.

My short film, Shattered Bonds, represents the major issue of mental health struggles that follow being left out in relationships and friendships, that so many people suffer from in the real world. The film highlights the idea that when you feel a sense of hurt in a relationship/friendship it can cause a mental trigger for coping mechanisms such as violence or self harm. Shattered bonds brings awareness to this through the plot. Throughout the film, there are scenes showing one of the teenage girls being left out of the group and feeling a sense of hurt in the fact that nobody is including her in their conversation or activities. These feelings of hurt then revolve into resentment in the film as they do in the real world. These feelings can lead to violence against others as well as self harm. In the film, the girl being left out resorts to killing the girl t...
