Hey, welcome back! In commercials on donuts, there’s a mix of diegetic and non-diegetic sound. Diegetic sound is an important aspect. There is music in the back of each scene that fits the mood and appeals to the viewer. If characters are shown, then there’s dialogue used to move the scene along. A lot of the time there are voice overs that narrate about the coffee or food that’s shown. Ambient sound is background noise which can be heard as other characters in the background of the shop or just surrounding noise present. In certain commercials there’s point of view shots and eyeline matches, in which the camera is what the barista would be seeing and doing. There's a lot of high and low camera angles for dramatic effect, for example, when they are drizzling caramel or chocolate on top of the coffee or donut. There are a lot of close ups and zooms on the desired products to emphasize the food presented. There is a lot of cross cutting to different people in these commercials. Sometimes commercials use split screen to show the companies two different products; like donuts and then coffee. There are normally a lot of editing effects like fade ins/outs and reverse shots to create a dramatic and entertaining commercial. The props are the coffee and donuts. Costume refers to a person's or a group's particular manner of dressing that reflects what the character represents. The character’s are normally in everyday clothing or in business casual clothing, because they could be going to work. The lightning and colors are normally very bright and colorful or very dramatic and dark. They’re bright and colorful when there’s characters and there’s cross cutting between scenes, they’re more dramatic and dark when they’re just focusing on the product. Depending on how the commercial wants to present their product, depends on how its shot. Some commercials just focus on the product, while others have another storyline to it. Anyways, it was nice talking to you. Catch you later.

My Critical Reflection

Critical Reflection Link Critical Reflection A level Media Studies How do your products represent social groups or issues? My short film, Shattered Bonds, represents the major issue of mental health struggles that follow being left out in relationships and friendships, that so many people suffer from in the real world. The film highlights the idea that when you feel a sense of hurt in a relationship/friendship it can cause a mental trigger for coping mechanisms such as violence or self harm. Shattered bonds brings awareness to this through the plot. Throughout the film, there are scenes showing one of the teenage girls being left out of the group and feeling a sense of hurt in the fact that nobody is including her in their conversation or activities. These feelings of hurt then revolve into resentment in the film as they do in the real world. These feelings can lead to violence against others as well as self harm. In the film, the girl being left out resorts to killing the girl t...

Short Film Research: The Last Note

Short film reasearch: ( The Last Note/Mystery) Hey blogg. Today we will be discussing an award-winning mystery short film called "The Last Note" and pointing out different features within this film. For some background, the film begins with David driving to lake while taking about leaving his wife and all his problems with her. Then David is seen with a body bag which is Catherine and dumps her in a lake. He does this due to catching ehr cheating on him the night before. Once David returns home, he starts drinking a liquor while reading a book named Murder. In the book, there was a note from Catherine and as he reads to there are flashbacks to her putting posion in the bottle. He then relazies as she write “sorry I had to do this , goodbye David” and he passes away. To begin the sound purely consisted of voice-overs from both Catherine and David, the former husbands and wife, along with sound effects. In specific, dramatic sound effects were used which is very common with...

A Comparison of 12 Monkeys & La Jetée

Heyyy blog welcome back. Prior to researching these two films I didn't realize how similar the two storylines were. I was distracted by the use of still images compared to video sequences to notice the plot. After watching “La Jetee vs 12 Monkeys… which is better?” I see that both films explore the idea of time travel and the consequences for your actions. La Jetee does this through the use of images to tell this provoking story. When creating our own short film we are able to take these to films and use them as inspiration. We want to incorporate more complex ideas that leave the audience thinking. I think our goal of our short film is to really throw the audience off track almost like a plot twist. We could maybe even incorporate the idea of a natural disaster just like La Jetee and 12 Monkeys. After watching the two films we also took the video style into consideration for our film. The La Jetee images are black and white so the film has an older, more dark feeling to it. For th...
