My music video uses and challenges conventions. It uses conventions by following the verdict of the Taylor Swift "You Belong With Me" and following the lyrics of the story about a girl wanting someone that someone else has. My music video challenges conventions by changing the original music video being about a relationship and my group made the music video about friendships. This music video also represents issues like stereotypes about "popular" and "nerdy" groups in high school and average problems teens face with friendships. My music video can really engage the audience because many teens can have friendships that they feel strongly towards and when there is a third person that you believe is better than you or "cooler" than you who is taking away the person you love from you which can hurt your self image in feeling as though you are not good enough. This feeling can really resonate with the audience of my groups music video and is the reason this is a real media text. My production skills have definitely improved throughout the production of this music video. My thought process has developed to think about all the creative ways that I can get messages out to the audience in a visual. I have done a lot of thinking about how to get the message of the song out through the music video being about friendships instead of what Taylor was originally singing about which is relationship wise. Throughout this music video, technology was a big part of everything my group and I did. I used another group members iPhone 13 Pro to film every scene of this music video. For contacting each other to plan and discuss dates for filming and editing, technology was used to communicate to each other. For editing, another group members iPhone XR was used to upload all the clips into CapCut the editing software. Through technology, my group and I were able to film, edit, and plan the entire music video. Overall, I had a very fun time expanding my knowledge of filming and editing this music video.

My Critical Reflection

Critical Reflection Link Critical Reflection A level Media Studies How do your products represent social groups or issues? My short film, Shattered Bonds, represents the major issue of mental health struggles that follow being left out in relationships and friendships, that so many people suffer from in the real world. The film highlights the idea that when you feel a sense of hurt in a relationship/friendship it can cause a mental trigger for coping mechanisms such as violence or self harm. Shattered bonds brings awareness to this through the plot. Throughout the film, there are scenes showing one of the teenage girls being left out of the group and feeling a sense of hurt in the fact that nobody is including her in their conversation or activities. These feelings of hurt then revolve into resentment in the film as they do in the real world. These feelings can lead to violence against others as well as self harm. In the film, the girl being left out resorts to killing the girl t...

Short Film Research: The Last Note

Short film reasearch: ( The Last Note/Mystery) Hey blogg. Today we will be discussing an award-winning mystery short film called "The Last Note" and pointing out different features within this film. For some background, the film begins with David driving to lake while taking about leaving his wife and all his problems with her. Then David is seen with a body bag which is Catherine and dumps her in a lake. He does this due to catching ehr cheating on him the night before. Once David returns home, he starts drinking a liquor while reading a book named Murder. In the book, there was a note from Catherine and as he reads to there are flashbacks to her putting posion in the bottle. He then relazies as she write “sorry I had to do this , goodbye David” and he passes away. To begin the sound purely consisted of voice-overs from both Catherine and David, the former husbands and wife, along with sound effects. In specific, dramatic sound effects were used which is very common with...

A Comparison of 12 Monkeys & La Jetée

Heyyy blog welcome back. Prior to researching these two films I didn't realize how similar the two storylines were. I was distracted by the use of still images compared to video sequences to notice the plot. After watching “La Jetee vs 12 Monkeys… which is better?” I see that both films explore the idea of time travel and the consequences for your actions. La Jetee does this through the use of images to tell this provoking story. When creating our own short film we are able to take these to films and use them as inspiration. We want to incorporate more complex ideas that leave the audience thinking. I think our goal of our short film is to really throw the audience off track almost like a plot twist. We could maybe even incorporate the idea of a natural disaster just like La Jetee and 12 Monkeys. After watching the two films we also took the video style into consideration for our film. The La Jetee images are black and white so the film has an older, more dark feeling to it. For th...
