Production Blog

Greetings! Welcome back. I want to talk more about filming and what the process was like. To start off a little more from the beginning, everything went smoothly. What ended up happening was Omnia and Harley came home with me from school on Thursday, March 16 and Marlo got a ride to my house from her parents. Filming started at around 5pm and sundown was at 7:30pm. My group and I used the 2 and 1/2 hours of daylight to film all the daytime scenes for this opening sequence. Scenes that were filmed were out of order due to the multiple days in the movie but only one day for the group to film. There was definitely much distraction due to the fact of my group and I being good friends and there is so much to talk about between us so it was hard to keep focus for long periods of time. Everyones ideas and opinions were heard and all of us had much creative input to give on scenes and how they should be filmed to portray the theme of the movie. Any night scenes in this opening sequence were filmed after 7:30pm and everyone left my house and went home at around 9pm. Overall, I had a very fun time filming and the whole group put in good and equal effort into getting the filming done in one day. Everyone contributed and it was a lot of fun as well as there being many laughs. Talk more next time!

My Critical Reflection

Critical Reflection Link Critical Reflection A level Media Studies How do your products represent social groups or issues? My short film, Shattered Bonds, represents the major issue of mental health struggles that follow being left out in relationships and friendships, that so many people suffer from in the real world. The film highlights the idea that when you feel a sense of hurt in a relationship/friendship it can cause a mental trigger for coping mechanisms such as violence or self harm. Shattered bonds brings awareness to this through the plot. Throughout the film, there are scenes showing one of the teenage girls being left out of the group and feeling a sense of hurt in the fact that nobody is including her in their conversation or activities. These feelings of hurt then revolve into resentment in the film as they do in the real world. These feelings can lead to violence against others as well as self harm. In the film, the girl being left out resorts to killing the girl t...

Short Film Research: The Last Note

Short film reasearch: ( The Last Note/Mystery) Hey blogg. Today we will be discussing an award-winning mystery short film called "The Last Note" and pointing out different features within this film. For some background, the film begins with David driving to lake while taking about leaving his wife and all his problems with her. Then David is seen with a body bag which is Catherine and dumps her in a lake. He does this due to catching ehr cheating on him the night before. Once David returns home, he starts drinking a liquor while reading a book named Murder. In the book, there was a note from Catherine and as he reads to there are flashbacks to her putting posion in the bottle. He then relazies as she write “sorry I had to do this , goodbye David” and he passes away. To begin the sound purely consisted of voice-overs from both Catherine and David, the former husbands and wife, along with sound effects. In specific, dramatic sound effects were used which is very common with...

A Comparison of 12 Monkeys & La Jetée

Heyyy blog welcome back. Prior to researching these two films I didn't realize how similar the two storylines were. I was distracted by the use of still images compared to video sequences to notice the plot. After watching “La Jetee vs 12 Monkeys… which is better?” I see that both films explore the idea of time travel and the consequences for your actions. La Jetee does this through the use of images to tell this provoking story. When creating our own short film we are able to take these to films and use them as inspiration. We want to incorporate more complex ideas that leave the audience thinking. I think our goal of our short film is to really throw the audience off track almost like a plot twist. We could maybe even incorporate the idea of a natural disaster just like La Jetee and 12 Monkeys. After watching the two films we also took the video style into consideration for our film. The La Jetee images are black and white so the film has an older, more dark feeling to it. For th...
